Liquid waste disposal isn’t probably something most people think about from the day-to-day, but it is an important service that is available to keep the environment safe and healthy, and to protect people and animals from harmful materials.
1. What is liquid waste?
Liquid waste is any leftover liquid substance that is considered hazardous to humans, animals or the earth. Liquid waste can be especially harmful for humans and animals if it gets into the water supply where it will contaminate all of the water. This could affect entire ecosystems of animals, and make people very sick if they drink it or use it for any personal reasons. Harmful liquid waste can be things like oils, chemicals and pesticides. It can even be very basic things like paint, food waste or household chemicals.
2. Who needs liquid waste disposal services?
Most frequently it is companies like restaurants, laboratories, and car repair shops, among many other businesses. But even an everyday home could be in need of liquid waste disposal services. Any place that produces and therefore needs to dispose of any liquid that cannot be simply dumped into the sewage system will need a liquid waste disposal service.
3. What do liquid waste disposal services do?
These services take waste and dispose of it in a safe way. These companies are committed to being earth-conscious and sustainable. They are able to recycle certain wastes, and properly dispose of the rest.
To do so they will pump the waste into a big truck. This is done either by a hand pump or by a vacuum-style pump.
4. What happens to the waste that is removed?
Once the liquid waste disposal company takes the waste away, it is tested and treated. The treatment process removes any parts of the liquid that are harmful to living things in three steps.
The preliminary step removes the big stuff. That is, any chunks of debris or things that may be contaminating the liquid.
The second step is the primary step. In this step a sedimentation tank is used to separate the liquid from very small particles that would have been missed in the preliminary step.
And the third step is the final step of treatment which removes any other harmful substances from the liquid. After this step, the liquid would be safe and reusable.
5. Where can you find a liquid waste disposal service?
There are private companies that do these services when needed, you should be able to find one in any city. Smaller villages and farms may have to call out to a company in a nearby town or city in order to get these services.
If you live in a city, the city will usually offer some liquid waste disposal services, or will have designated areas where you can bring your own small amounts of household waste. Alternatively, your city might be able to recommend a private company if you need a more heavy-duty service.
6. Why call a liquid waste disposal service?
It may seem much easier to just dump it down the drain, but especially when it comes to harmful chemicals like bleaches and paint, these chemicals can pass right through a septic system. They won’t break down and will be soaked up into any natural source they come into contact with.
Sewage systems are not meant to handle these harmful wastes either. Chemicals can corrode pipes, combine with other matter to create even more harmful chemicals, and the treatment systems in the sewage treatment plants may not be able to handle such toxic materials, thus releasing still contaminated material into natural bodies of water.
